Conference

19-20 november

The Sign Language Arts Conference is an international conference dedicated to artistic expression in sign language. It brings together artists, researchers, professionals, and others with an interest in sign language as an artistic, performative, linguistic, and cultural medium.

The conference explores how sign language can be understood, developed, and experienced as art. Through research presentations, artistic insights, and professional exchange, it highlights the many ways in which language, movement, rhythm, spatiality, visual composition, and the body interact within sign language-based artistic work.

The 2027 conference will offer perspectives from both academic research and artistic practice. It will create space for dialogue between theory and performance, between research and lived artistic experience, and between different sign languages, cultures, and creative traditions.

As part of Sign Language Arts 2027, the Conference marks the beginning of several days of artistic exchange and international encounter. It is a meeting place for those who wish to deepen their understanding of sign language arts, contribute to the development of the field, and take part in a growing global conversation around visual and embodied artistic expression.

An open call for speakers and contributors will be announced in autumn 2026.
