Call for projects – Application for circus companies

Applications open on September 2nd, 2024, and close on September 29th, 2024. 

CirkusExpo – Nordic platform for circus arts is presented by:  
Riksteatern, The Swedish Arts Council, The Swedish Arts Grants Committee, The Danish Arts Foundation, Circus and Dance Info Finland. 
In collaboration with CirkusMania and Cirkuscentrum.

Apply

CirkusExpo 2025 will invite 16 circus companies of those who has applied, to give presentations. Already touring and upcoming projects can be presented. 

Please note that the application means being allowed to present a pitch, not parts or whole performances. 

Companies must make a live pitch presentation and are offered a place in the online catalogue for a pre-recorded presentation. 
Only companies based in Sweden, Denmark and Finland can apply via this application. 
Decision will be announced on October 16th 2024.

Pitch presentations

The time frame is six minutes for the pitch. It is possible to show video and/or Power point, but we offer no other technical equipment or rigging for live performances.  
Presentations should be made in English.

Online Catalog

The selected companies are offered a place on CirkusExpo’s website for a 3-minute pre-produced video presenting of the project and is also given its own information page.  
The video is filmed and produced by the company. 
The company must deliver the video in mp4 format (HD resolution 1080p) to CirkusExpo by January 8th 2025 at the latest.

Guide for the application

• Note that the requested filmed material in the application must be able to be downloaded via a link.
• For already touring productions: Full-length video of the performance. 
• For upcoming productions: Filmed work in progress material. 
• The application will only be processed if, by the deadline, you have also sent an email to cirkusexpo@riksteatern.se with one portrait and one landscape high-resolution image (300 dpi) in jpg or tif, representing the project. 

Selection criteria

• Only companies/artists based in Sweden, Denmark and Finland can apply.
• Productions that are already touring must be able to be booked no later than autumn 2025. For projects that are not yet completed, they must be scheduled to premiere by 2026 at the latest.
• The selection includes different target groups, formats, aesthetic expressions and concepts as well as artistic quality.
• Perspectives regarding the selection: Multicultural perspective, diversity perspective and norm and gender perspective. The focus is to present a dynamic and varied range of projects, which can be suitable for a variety of venues and contexts.

Selection committee

• For Swedish companies: 
  The selection is made by a reference group consisting of representatives from various organizations working with circus in Sweden and Riksteatern artistic director for circus. 
   
• For Danish Companies: 
  The selection is made by a reference group consisting of representatives from The Danish Arts Foundation and Riksteatern artistic director for circus. 
   
• For Finnish Companies: 
  The selection is made by a reference group consisting of representatives from Circus & Dance Info Finland and Riksteatern artistic director for circus. 

Dates

Application opens 2d of september 2024 and closes 29th of september 2024. 
Decision; October16th 2024.
Video for the online catalogue must be sent in by 8th January 2025.   

Sweden-based circus artists, who are members of Cirkuscentrum, can apply for financial support to cover costs related to registration, travel, and accommodation for CirkusExpo. Get in contact with Cirkuscentrum here.
 
Within the collaboration with Circus and Dance Info Finland, Finnish circus artist will get travel and accomodation support. Info will be given to the selected companies.
