As part of Riksteatern's mission to develop the independent circus field, we welcome artists, companies, and directors who are registered in Sweden to apply for a three-week production residency in 2026.
Residency period
November 10–December 1, 2026
Riksteatern offers
- A three-week production residency in a basic theatre/black box according to agreed technical specifications. Technical specifications may include, for example, simple lighting/sound, dance floor/carpet and any other technical requirements.
- Technical planning support prior to the residency period and some technical support during the residency period.
- A public work-in-progress performance, including a discussion with the artistic team, during the last week of the residency period, as agreed with the Riksteatern residency manager.
- Production funds of SEK 100,000, payable against invoice and in accordance with a budget, technical specifications, and production residency plan submitted in advance.
- Possible accommodation allowance of up to SEK 10,000 in total if you or someone in the team is not registered in Stockholm County.
- Presentation of selected artist/company on the Riksteatern website for circus residencies and via the Riksteatern's social media.
Location
At the Riksteatern production house in Hallunda, Stockholm.
Application requirements
- You must be registered as a resident in Sweden.
- The production you are applying for must require 1:1 rehearsal in a theater/black box and have a planned premiere, performance dates, tour, and/or public screening.
The application must include
- Name of artist/company.
- Name of contact person.
- Email address of contact person.
- Mobile number of contact person.
- Link to website and/or social media, if applicable.
- Link to filmed material.
- Presentation of the group/company or individual artist (discipline, experience, education, etc.).
- Present your project. Describe it in as much detail as possible, as this will form the basis for the decision.
- A description of your expectations for the period. What do you plan to work on?
- A first draft of the production plan/rehearsal schedule.
- Technical specifications: a document describing the space, including desired lighting, sound, video, dance mat, flooring, etc.
- Budget for your production residency period at Riksteatern in Hallunda.
- Total budget for the production, including any approved grant applications, partners, and/or letters of intent.
- Attach a presentation of previous material/works, CV, and drawings or images of models, prototypes for your project, if you have them, or similar.
- Premiere date, venue, and location. Other planned performances, tour schedule, or other public viewing opportunities.
- Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.

Decisions will be announced at the end of December 2025.
